Sports
Athletics
Athletics is one of the most successful sports in St. Mac Dara’s. Athletics is broken into two seasons. The Cross Country season takes place from November to February, and the Track and Field Season takes place from March to June. Training usually takes place on Tuesdays after school.
Please remember that Athletics is not just running. We also do a wide range of field events. So if you want to jump, throw or walk, please join the team. All are welcome. If you have any questions about Athletics, then please speak to Ms Galligan.
Basketball
Basketball takes place weekly with Ms. K. Kelly. It is an opportunity for students to practise their skills, make new friends and get fit while playing a team sport. The senior boys now play in the Basketball Ireland – East League, and players can look forward to in-house games and some friendly fixtures against other schools. Most recently, our Senior team has qualified for the East League quarter-final.
Camogie (GAA)
Every year we enter teams in the following Camogie Competitions:
- Dublin Schools Senior Camogie (U19)
- Dublin Schools Junior Camogie (U16)
- Dublin Schools Minor Camogie (U14)
We have club players from St. Jude’s, Faughs, Ballyboden St. Enda’s, Good Counsel and Commercials, but new players are always welcome to sign up.
We generally train every Monday from 4.00pm to 5.00pm on the school pitch.
If interested in getting involved, please contact Ms. Cosgrave or Ms. Clune.
Golf
St. Mac Dara’s Community College organises Golf for boys and girls, from 1st to 6th Year, who are interested in playing this sport.
In addition to organising friendlies or weekend games, the school also enters the Leinster golf championships and hopefully goes on to the All-Ireland championships, though this is a tough ask, with many schools having near professional young golfers playing off low single figures. However, our golfers are very determined and give the other schools a great challenge.
These championships take place for both Senior and Junior Golfers.
All prospective golfers are welcome. Please see Mr. Cosgrave for further information.

Soccer
St. Mac Dara’s has had a long and successful association with the SFAI (School’s Football Association Ireland). We have had success in winning All-Ireland, Leinster and Dublin titles over the years, through both our boys’ and girls’ teams.
Our emphasis in the football department is to create positive and lasting memories for our students’ sporting lives. We encourage the students to be active, participate and ultimately cater for their football development.
Our football department consists of 6 football teams with over 90 students participating. Our teams include First Years, U15, U17, and U19 in the boys section and U15, U19 in the girls section. All teams are entered into league and cup SAFI competitions. Recently, we have also established a Futsal team for 1st year students.
Students will be coached by UEFA A and UEFA B licensed coaches with various experiences in domestic football in our country. The teams are coached by Mr. J Carey, Mr. Canavan and Mr. Ryan.
